Editorial analysis

What the funder is trying to accomplish

DPR supports projects that advance sustainable pest management practices through IPM research, knowledge, tools, outreach, and implementation in agricultural, urban, and/or wildland settings. In 2027, it particularly seeks projects addressing one or more named topic areas: alternatives for weed or rodent management; alternatives to fumigants; adoption of emerging technologies for IPM/SPM; emerging pests and prevention strategies; and alternatives to pesticides DPR prioritizes for mitigation or evaluation.

Editorial analysis

Strong-fit project signals

The project directly addresses one or more named 2027 focus areas, including alternatives to fumigants, alternatives for weed or rodent management, emerging IPM/SPM technology adoption, emerging pests and prevention, or alternatives to DPR-prioritized pesticides. The proposed activities advance sustainable pest management through IPM research, knowledge, tools, outreach, implementation, or a combination of these approaches in agricultural, urban, and/or wildland settings. The applicant can meet the complete eligibility requirements in the 2027 SPM Grants Solicitation, including requirements applicable to associated project personnel. If fieldwork occurs outside California, the proposal justifies that location, demonstrates California-like conditions, and shows that the project will benefit Californians. Out-of-state travel is not reimbursable. The proposed budget is within DPR’s stated $100,000 to $1,000,000 application budget range.

Editorial analysis

What reviewers may prioritize

Formal review criteria and scoring weights are not supplied. It is reasonably inferred that responsiveness to a named 2027 topic, advancement of sustainable pest management through the program’s listed activity types, relevance to an eligible setting, and—where applicable—demonstrated California benefit will be central to a responsive proposal. These are not confirmed scoring criteria.
