Editorial analysis

What the funder is trying to accomplish

IES supports State agencies’ use of statewide longitudinal data systems (SLDSs) to provide evidence for their own program and policy decisions and those of local education agencies, concerning learners’ access to high-quality education and academic achievement.

Editorial analysis

Strong-fit project signals

The application includes the State agency or State postsecondary system responsible for the education issue, program, or policy being examined. The applicant institution can demonstrate ability and capacity to conduct rigorous research. The project proposes use of an SLDS to generate evidence for a defined State agency or local education agency program or policy decision. The proposed decision context is connected to learners’ access to high-quality education or academic achievement.

Editorial analysis

What reviewers may prioritize

Formal reviewer criteria and scoring weights are not contained in the supplied packet. The listed RFA must be consulted for them. As a strategic inference from the program description and eligibility requirements, reviewers may look for a clearly defined education decision, a credible SLDS-based evidence approach, rigorous research capacity, and participation by the responsible State entity; these are not confirmed scoring criteria.
