A grant from NASA-HQ

Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion (SpaceTech REDDI-2026) Grant

SpaceTech REDDI-2026 is a NASA STMD umbrella NASA Research Announcement through which proposals will be solicited under topic-specific Appendices as technology topics are defined and funding becomes available. It is relevant only where a proposed space-technology effort aligns with a released Appendix. The umbrella notice confirms broad anticipated organizational participation, a cost-share requirement, and NASA/JPL recipient restrictions, but does not provide Appendix-specific scope, award amounts, deadlines, evaluation criteria, or cost-share terms. Applicants should identify the applicable Appendix and verify its requirements before determining whether to apply.

Plain-English explanation

Plain-English explanation

Editorial analysis

What the funder is trying to accomplish

NASA STMD states that it develops, demonstrates, and infuses transformational space technologies that solve critical stakeholder needs and support future NASA, other government, and commercial missions. Its investments aim to advance U.S. space-technology innovation and competitiveness, encourage technology-driven growth in the expanding space economy, and help develop the U.S. aerospace technology community.

Editorial analysis

Strong-fit project signals

The proposed work concerns space-technology research, development, demonstration, or infusion and aligns with the topic of a released Appendix. The project can credibly address a critical stakeholder need or support a future NASA, other-government, or commercial mission. The applicant can support the required cost share, subject to the applicable Appendix’s terms. The applicant has confirmed that its organizational status and any NASA, JPL, government, FFRDC, or UARC participation comply with the applicable Appendix and the stated recipient restrictions.

Editorial analysis

What reviewers may prioritize

The evidence packet provides no formal evaluation criteria or scoring rubric. As an inferred positioning priority, a proposal should clearly connect the technology to the applicable Appendix and explain its relevance to stakeholder needs, future missions, and STMD’s stated technology-development, demonstration, and infusion objectives. These are not confirmed review factors.

What this grant funds

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters, Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) will be releasing an Umbrella NASA Research Announcement (NRA) titled “Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion-2026 (SpaceTech-REDDI-2026)” on or about December 9, 2025.

The solicitation is available by opening the NSPIRES homepage at https://nspires.nasaprs.com/ , selecting “Open” under "Solicitations," and searching "Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and

Infusion-2026 (SpaceTech-REDDI-2026)" un- der Solicitation #/Keyword(s).

Proposals will be solicited through Appendices issued under this Umbrella SpaceTech-REDDI-2026 Solicitation, as technology topics are defined and funding is made available. See STMD Solicitations and Opportunities ( https://www.nasa.gov/stmd-solicitations-and-opportunities/ ) for anticipated releases.

Once new Appendices are released, interested parties will be able to access the Appendices by selecting “Open” under "Solicitations," and searching “SpaceTech- REDDI-2026” in the “Solicitation #/ Keyword(s)” search area, and then selecting “List of Open Program Elements”. It is anticipated that this Umbrella NRA Solicitation (SpaceTech-REDDI-2026) will be open for one year and Umbrella SpaceTech-REDDI Solicitations will be issued annually.

NASA STMD leads the development, demonstration, and infusion of transformational space technologies that solve critical stakeholder needs. As the tech base for civil space, STMD advances technology to sup- port future NASA, other government, and commercial missions. STMD investments aim to (1) advance U.S. space technology innovation and competitiveness in a global context, (2) encourage technology driven economic growth with an emphasis on the expanding space economy, and (3) inspire and develop a powerful U.S. aerospace technology community. STMD bolsters and funds ideas from entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators across the country. Space technology research and development occurs at NASA centers, universi- ties, national labs, and small businesses.
